mother-in-law sings &#8220;You are my sunshine&#8221; to all the grand kids, all the time.\u00a0 Especially the ones that live far away, she sings it over the phone.\u00a0 Its a special thing for them and her.\u00a0 So I thought it would be fun to use our hands and make a birthday surprise for her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-709\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=709\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-709\" title=\"post\" scrapbookers out there will love this.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like a giant scrapbook page without pictures.\u00a0 I saw an idea to do a scrapbook page with &#8220;you are my sunshine&#8221; as the theme in <em>ScrapBooks Etc<\/em> magazine a few years ago.\u00a0 But, could not find it when I made this&#8230; I searched so hard but was bummed that they have taken it off their website and I can&#8217;t find the July 2008 issue either!\u00a0 I just had to go with the memory of it- my photographic memory coming in handy.\u00a0 I also found an awesome layout in my search for the picture that originally inspired me, but (say this next sentence fast and annoyed) someone messed with my computer before I could bookmark it and I can&#8217;t find that either to give the lady some props!&#8230;so poo&#8230;\u00a0 But!\u00a0 good news I figured something out using my creativity and supplies I had in my craft closet.\u00a0 (I used only what I had already-such a good feeling)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>This is what I used:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Scrapbook paper- lots<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">buttons and gems<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">paper flowers<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">sewing machine and thread<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">hot glue<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">card board- for backing<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Tombo adhesive- I LOVE<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Cricut machine, Plantin SchoolBook cartridge, Opposites Attract cartridge<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Different shades of yellow acrylic crafters paint and card stock for hand prints<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>How I did it:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">My sister-in-laws sent me their families hand prints.\u00a0 I cut them out and started arranging them on a curve.\u00a0 I then arranged papers for the sun, glued them together and sewed them for an extra touch<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-698\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=698\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-698\" title=\"sun\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/sun.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After sewing it I emblessed with buttons, gems, thread, and a sticker that says &#8220;family&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I wrote all the names on the hands, because I thought the kids would enjoy seeing which hand is theirs when they get bigger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-702\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=702\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-702\" title=\"grass\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/grass.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I cut grass by just cutting little random triangles out of the paper, then layering with solid colors.\u00a0 I glued those together with my Tombo and again sewed different stitches and tread colors for interest<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-700\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=700\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-700\" title=\"music\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/music.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sorry this pic is blurry.\u00a0 I printed the sheet music out on scrapbook paper and burnt the edges to make it look antique\/old<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-703\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=703\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-703\" title=\"words\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/words.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I cut out cloud shapes, glued, sewed.\u00a0 Cut out some raindrops.\u00a0 And used my cricut to cut the words out.\u00a0 My back ground is a piece of scrapbook paper that looks like notebook paper.\u00a0 I got that idea from the lady I can&#8217;t remember\/find.\u00a0 I sewed the same color blue on a few of the lines of the paper to add texture.\u00a0 The other back ground paper, the teal, is two matching pieces of paper just set underneath everything.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-699\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=699\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-699\" title=\"flowers\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/flowers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I am not sure why, but this was the hardest part for me.\u00a0 I knew I wanted flowers, but I didn&#8217;t know how to arrange them.\u00a0 I loved the flowers printed on the paper,\u00a0 but also wanted more texture.\u00a0 So, I added the paper flowers and used brads for the center.\u00a0 I sewed the leaves and made that super cute bumble bee.\u00a0 I think the bee is my favorite.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am proud of that little bee \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-701\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=701\"><img loading=\"lazy\" frame I had bought at a garage sale and never used.\u00a0 I think it cost $5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-707\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sanded the edges<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-704\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?attachment_id=704\"><img height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then I used a clear top coat to seal it&#8230; and it totally bubbled up.\u00a0 I was thinking, &#8220;Man, now I have to sand the whole thing and start over!&#8221;\u00a0 But to my surprise as I started to sand it looked just how I wanted, totally antiqued.\u00a0 Perfect!
