{"id":1912,"date":"2011-10-17T16:16:12","date_gmt":"2011-10-17T16:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?p=1912"},"modified":"2011-10-17T16:16:12","modified_gmt":"2011-10-17T16:16:12","slug":"marshmallow-fondant-and-nemo-wave-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?p=1912","title":{"rendered":"Marshmallow Fondant and Nemo Wave Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Marshmallow fondant is pretty stink&#8217;n easy to make. \u00a0My sister in law makes some awesome cakes with\u00a0marshmallow\u00a0fondant. \u00a0Over the phone, a few states away, she helped me make a sweet cake for Beck.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here how I made my marshmallow fondant wave cake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You will need to have:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">1-2 packages of marshmallows, big or small.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">2-5 tablespoons of water<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">About 8 cups of powdered sugar. 1-2 bags<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">vanilla, almond, or any kind of extract for flavoring<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_9865.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1906\" title=\"IMG_9865\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_9865.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If you are doing all one color then go ahead and melt all your mallows in\u00a0the\u00a0same bowl. \u00a0If you want to do a few different colors, split them up before melting them. \u00a0Put your mallows in a microwave safe bowl and add 1-2 tablespoons of water. \u00a0Stir them around until they are all slightly wet. \u00a0Put a few drops of your extract in now. \u00a0Add more water if needed, but just a little at a time. \u00a0Place in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. \u00a0Open and stir. \u00a0Continue\u00a0microwaving\u00a0for 30 second until your\u00a0marshmallows\u00a0are melted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>My apron says &#8220;Got more time for misbehave&#8217;n, since I started\u00a0microwave&#8217;n.&#8221; \u00a0Pretty sweet, I know \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Once they are melted, pour 1 cup of powdered sugar into the bowl. \u00a0Mix until it thickens up. \u00a0Spread powdered sugar on the counter. \u00a0Take the fondant out of the bowl and start to knead it. \u00a0It will be very sticky! \u00a0My sister in law recommends putting shortening on your hands to help. \u00a0She also adds about 1\/2 cup to her fondant, but I didn&#8217;t. \u00a0You can do it either way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Keep kneading and adding powdered sugar until becomes a firm ball. \u00a0It will still be a little sticky when it is\u00a0stretched\u00a0out. \u00a0No worries. \u00a0Place ball, double wrapped, in saran wrap over night. \u00a0It will not be as sticky they next day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When you roll it out make sure there is flour underneath to keep if from sticking to the counter. \u00a0You will not see that side of the fondant. \u00a0You might also need a little flour on the rolling pin, but if it shows on your top side just take a damp cloth and wipe it off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I was inspired to make these waves from this picture I saw on <a href=\"http:\/\/6thstreetdesignschool.blogspot.com\/2011\/08\/jetts-nautical-birthday-party.html\" target=\"_blank\">6th Street Design School Blog<\/a>. \u00a0Check out this blog. \u00a0It has a lot of beautiful stylish ideas for your home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_6784.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1913\" title=\"IMG_6784\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_6784-333x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_6784-333x500.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_6784-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_6784.jpg 1066w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I love this beautiful wave cake, but I am not yet up to this kind of cake making par. \u00a0So, I made just one tier. \u00a0I used three different fondant colors. \u00a0AND, I used a box to make my cake \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After making these and letting them cool for a bit; I trim off the tops to make them flat. \u00a0I then layered them with frosting and home made\u00a0raspberry\u00a0jam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_9871.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1907\" title=\"IMG_9871\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_9871.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This handy tip I learned from Sandra Lee. \u00a0Place some parchment paper like so on your cake stand. \u00a0This helps to keep the cake stand clean and you won&#8217;t have to try to move it once it&#8217;s iced either. \u00a0Place your bottom cake piece down and begin to layer on here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_9872.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1908\" title=\"IMG_9872\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMG_9872.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Once you&#8217;ve completely iced the outside of your cake with a thin layer of frosting, you can place your fondant on. \u00a0Roll out your fondant (if you haven&#8217;t already) and cut it\u00a0wavy\u00a0like with your pizza cutter. \u00a0Start at the top of the cake and layer going down. \u00a0This can be tricky, but hopefully the little layer of frosting you put on the cake will act like glue and hold the waves on. \u00a0I also put tooth picks in the back of the cake, until the waves were secure. \u00a0Once it is ready for the party remove the parchment paper by gently pulling it out from under the cake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You can do it! \u00a0Make a cool cake for your kid. \u00a0Then proceed to do a happy dance.
