{"id":1391,"date":"2011-07-07T20:39:52","date_gmt":"2011-07-07T20:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?p=1391"},"modified":"2011-07-26T21:30:43","modified_gmt":"2011-07-26T21:30:43","slug":"tv-stand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/?p=1391","title":{"rendered":"TV Stand- Refinishing, Distressing, Antiquing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2044.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1404\" title=\"IMG_2044\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2044.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I bought this dresser off KSL &#8211; (Utah&#8217;s version of Craigslist) &#8211; for $80. \u00a0I then got to work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here is how I transformed this dresser into my TV stand<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Untitled-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1403\" title=\"Untitled-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Untitled-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I started by going into one of my favorite Utah furniture stores that\u00a0specializes\u00a0in painting wood furniture. \u00a0They helped me pick out the paints I wanted and gave me a few tips on how to tackle this project. \u00a0I want to share these tips with you and more that I learned from trial and error \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The first thing you want to do when refinishing a\u00a0piece\u00a0is sand. \u00a0I used a #220 grit sand paper to sand this baby down. \u00a0Since I was painting the whole piece I didn&#8217;t worry too much about getting all the way down to the wood (except in the areas I wanted to see a more distressed look). \u00a0I made myself a little map of where those areas were before I started to paint. \u00a0You really just need to sand enough for the paint to have something to stick to. \u00a0After sanding, I then\u00a0wiped\u00a0down piece\u00a0completely to get rid of dust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2057.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1393\" title=\"IMG_2057\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2057.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I then applied a thin coat of paint with a foam brush (this helps to\u00a0minimize\u00a0brush strokes and get a more even layer) I let this dry about 5-6 hours, then I used my #220 grit sand paper to lightly sand again. \u00a0I made sure to look back at my distressing map to sand those areas extra well. \u00a0Wiped it down again and painted again. \u00a0Repeating these steps until the grain of the wood was no longer visible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2096.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1394\" title=\"IMG_2096\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2096.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2102.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1397\" title=\"IMG_2102\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2102.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After the brown paint was done being applied I used a #150 grit sand paper for extra distressing. \u00a0I\u00a0wiped\u00a0it down and added in my pops of baby blue, green, and teal. \u00a0I used the foam brush and an art paint brush to cover the small areas. \u00a0I sanded down the distressed areas onces more with my #220 and #150 sand paper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/ba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1392\" title=\"ba\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/ba.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I then added a dark brown glaze over the top of the whole piece. I let this dry for 2 days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2099.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1396\" title=\"IMG_2099\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2099.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2097.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1395\" title=\"IMG_2097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lynnspin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMG_2097.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally I added a top coat. I very lightly sanded\/buffed the piece with #600 grit sand paper.
